Nick Aguirre's Salsa Dura Show
|
Now On 2 Radio Stations The Latin Soul Show Radio and Salsa Dura Radio
|
Looks can be deceiving. Although Nick
appears in this photo like a hoodlum who just
killed his mother, this pussy cat DJ will pop a
cap in you with his super rare classic Salsa
Dura collection. Don’t mess with this guy.
Nick Aguirre from California has approximately
a trillion records in his collection. On
November 2005 he emailed Andres Padua
from The Latin Soul Show Internet Radio and
stated, “I have some music for your site and
for The Latin Soul radio station.” Nick came
up with an idea for a show to air every week
on the station. Nick wanted to call the show
“The Salsa Dura Show” however Andres
exclaimed there was something missing in the
title. It was only fair to title the show “Nick
Aguirre’s Salsa Dura Show” after all, the
playlist is from his trillion-record collection.
Nick’s Salsa Dura Show officially launched on January 29th 2005 on The Latin Soul
Show Radio with a phenomenal response from fans all over the world including Japan,
South America, Germany and the USA. After fans listened to the pilot show, the
popularity of the show spread like wild fire all over the Internet without any advertising
campaign or promotion. The word of mouth was done through email networking from
friends and family.
Founder of The Latin Soul Show Radio, Andres Padua never
communicated verbally with Nick for six consecutive months.
Amazingly, these two gentlemen that reside 3,000 miles apart
can collaborate together and create one of the most listened
to and successful shows on the Internet, “Nick Aguirre’s Salsa
Dura Show.” Andres considers Nick his non-verbal Internet
bestfriend. Although Andres created The Latin Soul Show
Radio with his measly 1,000 records and CD collection, it is
Nick's gold treasure that embellishes the radio station with his
rare golden collection of Salsa Dura, Charanga, Sweet Latin
Soul and the unforgettable Boogaloo tunes.
WHAT SALSA DURA ARTIST DOES NICK PLAY ON HIS SALSA DURA SHOW? If your speakers are on, you're listening to a 25 minute sampler!

If someone were to ask you, which Salsa or Latin Jazz artist do you remember in the
early 60s and 70’s? I guarantee 90% of the time many would respond “Tito Puente,
Willie Colon, Ray Barretto or Celia Cruz.” No one will ever forget those magnificent
Fania All Stars singers and bandleaders. Even the non-Hispanic communities
remembers yesterday’s Fania Legends.
Mainstream or commercial radio continues to play most of their music in east and
west cost but with minimal airplay. Fania Records was the Latin Motown of the 60’s
and 70’s. The Motown roster had legends after legends including; The Marvelletes,
The Jackson Five, The Temptation, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and The
Miracles, The Four Tops, Rick James and their roster goes on and on. Ironically,
both record labels began in the 1960s.
Fania’s roster had their Latin legends: Willie Colon, Hector Lavoe, Celia Cruz, Ray
Barretto, Roberto Roena and Su Apollo Sound etc. They were the greatest and still
are till this day, however was Fania the only record label producing salsa artist in the
60’s and 70’s in the US? Were they not other singers and great Latin Orquesta
outside of the Fania family?
They were literally thousands of Salsa artists in the 60’s and 70’s that recorded for
other record labels. Many of these artists did not receive much recognition they truly
deserved. Several only recorded one album and disappeared from the music scene.
Even those artist that recorded several albums are forgotten today by the majority of
latin music enthusiast.
Nick not only plays your common Salsa Dura you normally hear on the radio but 99%
of his playlist are from rare Latin Orquestas such as: Orquesta Dee Jay, La Protesta,
Orquesta Flamboyan, New Generation, La Fantastica, Candido Y Su Moviemiento,
Orquesta Capri, Chamaco Ramierez, Eddie Lebron, Ray Rodriguez, Papo Felix, Paul
Ortiz, Joe Acosta, Kako, Monguito and thousands of others. Not to mention the hot
swinging Cuban Son tunes. His playlist is endless.
Nick’s Salsa Dura Show will guarantee rare classic Salsa tunes that you have not
heard in over 3 decades. Several musicians from the old school become either
shocked or filled with joy when they hear their classic swinging Salsa tune on The
Salsa Dura Show they recorded back in the days with their orquestas. Some thought
their music was archaic and dead to the world due to lack of airplay on mainstream
radio. Nick Aguirre continues to keep their precious music alive and kicking on his
Salsa Dura Show.

All shows are in their entirety as aired on The Latin Soul Show Radio.

Andres Padua Salsa Dura Show Host

Andres made a promise to Nick Aguirre on January 29th 2006 when the first Salsa
Dura Show aired. If the radio station continues its popularity and Satellite Radio
officials contracts The Station, you can bet for sure Nick will be included in that
contract.
Dustin Anthony aka (DJ Duste) from Bomby India shocked the
heck out of Latin Soul fans with his 'Vintage Salsa Dura
Megamix" on 9/17/06 on Nick's Salsa Dura Show. Who would
have ever thought the country India was swinging the classic
Salsa Dura tunes. While Nick was in the process of moving to
a new home and could not air his Salsa Dura Show, Dustin
Anthony carried the torch and impressed our listeners with his
24 minute classic Salsa Dura Megamix.

Born in the Dominican Republic, DJ Nilson Diaz Gomez arrived
in Canada 1998 and brought with him just a few salsa records,
cds, and a deep love and passion for the flavour of the music
and dance. Being a professional dancer in Puerto Plata, he
also had a strong feel for the unique and 'danceable’ rhythms
the music had to offer. It was that same love and passion for
salsa that spawned his professional DJ career in Toronto,
2001. Today, DJ Nilson's rare and beautiful salsa music
collection consists of over 4000 Vintage Lps and Cds! His
favourite styles are New York and Puerto Rican, both new and
old school, Boogaloo, Latin Soul and Latin Jazz. If you are
ever in Toronto Canada visit Myth Restaurant where DJ Nilson
is mixing and spinning the swinging Salsa Dura tunes.

DJ based in Manchester, UK, Chris' heart lies in gritty urban
salsa and brass laden big band sounds. In his quest to offer
new musical experiences to the dancer he collects rare vinyl
and out of print gems always looking for that firecracker for
his next set.
What started as a record collecting obsession in his youth
became a deep rooted passion for latin music. After a spell
Dj'ing House music in his teens Chris swiftly moved on to
Latin music. Growing tired with some of the bland Salsa
Monga releases of the early 90's, he acquired a taste for the
hard urban salsa sounds of 60's and 70's New York, Puerto
Rico, Venezuela, Panama and Columbia.
Recent Career highlights for Chris include becoming a
resident DJ for the UK's largest club night
(www.salsology.com), playing at the New York Salsa
Congress and running his 'old skool mambo' club night
'Hattan Soul'. www.mambomagic.net
Message from Chris: I'd like to thank all the dancers out
there for providing us DJ's with the opportunity to do what we
love and share our passion for Salsa Dura and thank Andy
and Nick for the opportunity to play on his awesome radio
show. I'd like to give a big shout out to all the DJ's and
collector's who are keeping this music alive and especially to
my good friend DJ Ricardo from Nottingham,UK. One of the
most awesome collectors of rare Salsa Dura anywhere,
Richard's also a great DJ. If you like what i'm doing, just wait
for this guy's set, it's gonna blow your head clean off!
Resident of Staten Island, New York and Mexican
decent, Antonio loves the New York Salsa Dura
classics and specializes in Columbian Swinging
Salsa.

He may have the appearance of a rocker with long blond
hair and black attire and with a rapper name Eric B.
Appearances can be deceiving. Eric Brouwer proved to
thousands of listeners he is Monogamous Lover of pure
Hard Salsa when he debuted his super rare swinging
Classic Salsa Set on The Nick Aguirre's Salsa Dura Show
April 6th 2008. Eric Brouwer hails from Amsterdam,
Netherlands and his greatest passion is SALSA DURA.
Many people don't know that there is an amazing and
smokin' Salsa scene in Holland. Holland was actually one of
the first countries in Europe to establish a Latin scene when
many Antilleans from Curacao, Aruba, St. Maarten etc.
came over to Holland in the 70's and brought along the
Music. Eric B is a hard core salsero at heart. You may call
him a Salsaholic and he is a proud addict.
