passion for keeping Hard Salsa alive.  Influenced
by the founding fathers of Salsa from the 70’s, this
NYC Salsa Orquesta is making young and old
swing in the nightclubs.  Their CD has a Parental
Advisory logo indicating “Salsa Dura”. It does not
mean explicit lyrics but the music is all Hard Salsa
AKA Salsa Dura.  It’s dangerous for those with a
heart condition.

Manteca is certainly full of Fuego (Fire) exactly as titled on their
song.  This group from the United Kingdom is certainly making a
name for themselves and many predict they will be crossing over
to the USA and other South American countries.  You will not be
able to put out the flames from this hard-hitting Salsa Band.  They
are simply on fire ‘FUEGO” baby.

Artist Name: Almieda Girl and La Gran Descarga (United Kingdom)
CD Title: TBA
Label: TBA (2008)
You gotta love United Kingdom for producing beautiful Hard Salsa
music.  For Almieda Girl and La Gran Descarga, they took Marvin
Gaye’s classic Motown “Grapevine” and put a little sprinkle of Soul
Salsa with a nice Afro-Cuban Son Montuno and swing.  A killer track
to watch out for.

Artist Name: La Orquesta Remembranzas (Puerto Rico)
CD Title: TBA
Label: TBA (2008)
It is wonderful when a young band of teenagers and young adults
maintain their Latin roots and not sell out to other genres just
because it’s the new fad.  For La Orquesta Remembranzas, they
show their love of Hard Salsa with their track “Para Cambiar De
Sabor.”  Although the song may be a little smooth but still maintains
a swinging danceable Salsa tune.

The Charanga genre has been dead in New York City since the

swinging group from New York City.  With a mixture of Charanga and
a little bit of Rumba and Clave, you get CharanSalsa in your sauce
and their sauce is spicy.

Artist Name: Thaimi De Grupo Milenio
CD Title: TBA (2008)
Label: TBA
From Trenton, New Jersey, Thaimi De Grupo Milenio does not have a
hard salsa style in my opinion but the fans have spoken and digs this
group from New Jersey.  Lead singer Thaimi Michelle has a sweet
soulful voice and blends perfectly with the band.  By the way Thaimi is
pronounced “Tie Me.”
